Description: Edward L. Schneider is the President & Executive Director of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT). Previously, he was Director & Professor of the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and President & CEO of The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden (Santa Barbara, CA). After earning his Ph.D. at The University of California, Santa Barbara he entered academe at Texas State University, San Marcos where he was professor, Chairman of Biology, and Dean of the College of Science.  A recipient of both distinguished teaching & research awards, Ed has published five books and over 120 scientific, peer-reviewed papers.  He has been a Board member of several organizations including the Botanical Society of America (BSA), Center for Plant Conservation (CPC), American Public Garden Association (APGA), American Association of Museums (AAM), The Texas Academy of Sciences, and the International Water Lily Society (IWLS).  His honors include: Fellow & President of the Texas Academy of Science; Hall of Fame in the International Water Lily Society; Distinguished Alumnus, Central Washington University; Botanical Society of America Award of Merit, Centennial Award, and President; the Centennial Medallion for excellence and distinction from Texas State University; American Association of Museums Excellence in Service Award; The Award of Merit from the American Public Garden Association; Outstanding Faculty Member, University of California, Santa Barbara; and the Viking Award for Leadership from Minnesota.
